Painting the Nature of Cities

Hello! I’m Nina Browne.

Growing up in Paterson, NJ, and now living in Brooklyn, NY for more than 30 years, I know that we do not live in cities—they live in us. As a former professional woodworker who has spent over a decade as an environmental educator, I also know that we humans are a seamless part of the natural world. By zooming out to the whimsical macrolevel or zooming in to the microscopic cellular level, my work celebrates and mourns the ways urbanites witness and/or dismiss the green and gray infrastructure—the trees, concrete, rivers, and sewers—all around us.
